The Holidays.

Whether it's homes decorated in lights, or twinkling lights on the tree, something about it is cozy and special. I love the quiet times of the morning or evening, when the house is calm and the only glow of light is coming from the Christmas tree. A warm cup of hot cocoa, cider, or coffee in hand always adds to the ambiance too. Something about this time of year, and these quiet, calm, restful moments make you appreciate all the year had in store as it comes to a close. To me, it's not about the gift giving and the hustle and bustle of the season. It's the birth of Jesus Christ, the time with family, and holiday traditions that make it special. I encourage you to put your phone down this holiday season. Soak in these moments with family, before these moments are gone. Cherish each of them while they are here. It's crazy how much changes in a year. Family members are missed, children grow, and new traditions are made. Just BE this Christmas. BE with family. BE giving. BE kind. Most of all BE present.

Here are a few of our favorites this time of year...

Christmas Lights:

Garvan Woodland Gardens- Worth the drive to Hot Springs. With over 4.5 million lights, walking through the paths is truly magical. There are several different light displays throughout the gardens including a 50 foot animated tree with music. They also have free hot cocoa to sip while walking through the winter wonderland. They are open until Dec. 31st from 4:00-9:00PM. (For more info visit www.garvangardens.org)

Drive around in PJs- Simple, yet fun. Put on your comfiest PJs and jump in the car. First stop- coffee shop for coffee or hot cocoa. Then drive around and look for lights. Loop through neighborhoods, colleges/universities, and downtown. Keep the Christmas tunes on too!

Christmas Recipes- Family traditions are the best. Do you have certain recipes you only cook/bake for the holidays? I love waking up on Christmas morning to my mom's breakfast. It's only once a year and it's so special to me. The holiday wouldn't be the same without it. Find some recipes that your family can cook/bake together each and every year to create your own tradition. Pinterest has a million recipes to browse.

Christmas tree farm- I love the smell of a fresh, live, Christmas tree. Sure the fake trees are great for putting up early, and no mess. But, nothing beats finding "the tree" each year. This year we checked out Motley's Tree Farm in Little Rock. We roamed through the trees on a crisp, cold day and searched for the perfect one. They have reasonable prices, and nothing really beats cutting down your own tree. They have a smooth process for it all too. You find your tree, cut it, and they come by and pick it up. You drive your car up and they shake, bale, and load it for you. We were also there for the pig races. Yes, you read that right. It's worth the short drive, especially if you have kids. www.motleyschristmastrees.com

Hope you have a special holiday this year.
