Neighborhood is defined “a district, especially one forming a community within town or city.” The Village at Hendrix is just that. In the heart of Conway, Arkansas lies the Village at Hendrix, a unique neighborhood with rows of amazing homes, scenic outdoor spaces and trails, delicious restaurants, and local shops.
The Village at Hendrix was developed by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company. (If the work looks familiar to you beach goers, this was the same group that brought Seaside, FL to life.) The Village at Hendrix brings together the elements of work, play, and a little R & R.
My personal favorite part of The Village at Hendrix is the HCP, or the Hendrix Creek Preserve. “HCP has created an 18-acre multifunctional environment in the form of a conservation easement. The primary purpose of the HCP is to provide storm water management to prevent flooding within a 500-acre watershed area within the City of Conway. Through selective plantings and controlled stream flows, water leaves the environment cleaner than when it enters. The Watershed also collects and retains storm events to recharge the local aquifers.” (https://www.hendrix.edu/village/experience/HendrixCreekPreserve.aspx)
The trails are a breath of fresh air after a long day. Our dog absolutely loves going for a walk there. We take the trails through the HCP, walk through the quiet streets of houses admiring the front porches, landscaping and architecture of each home. (I LOVE that not all of the homes look the same) We usually end the walk with a milkshake at The Purple Cow. I realize that defeats the whole purpose of the walk, but our dog loves sitting out on the patio and watching the people walk by. The staff is great and brings him his own water bowl.
Speaking of milkshakes and spots to grab a bite to eat, The Hendrix Village offers a few different choices. All within walking distance from your future home is Panera Bread, ZaZa, The Purple Cow, and Sashimi Japanese Steakhouse. With a wide variety, you can eat out every week and indulge in something completely different each night.
The Villages at Hendrix were created to keep people close with not only the casual “hello” while landscaping your flower beds, but through impromptu and planned events as well. Hendrix College is a short walk or bike ride away and offers several free lectures and events. If that’s not your thing, there are also free movie screenings during the spring and summer months, farmers markets, and live music. And, you can’t forget the easy stroll to Hendrix College athletics events such as football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball, and baseball to name a few. Also nearby is the Wellness and Athletics Center also known as the WAC. This huge facility houses a fitness center, indoor track, movement studio, gym, climbing wall, aquatic center, and tennis. All of this comes at a special discounted membership price for residents of The Villages.
